On Wednesday, LG Electronics announced that it has allowed other TV brands to use it’s smart TV platform this year.
The aim of the company is to boost its software capability to augment it’s growth.
Brands like RCA, Ayonz and Konka will manufacture webOS TV which will soon be available in the market.
LG also signed partnerships with streaming giants like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon and remote controls solution provider Universal Electronics Inc.
This is to attract more TV brands to use the company’s smart TV platform.
Moreover, WebOS is multi-platform operating system popular for its use as the alternative to iOS in the initial stage.
WebOS’ openness, easy accessibility and user-friendly interface has the potential to attract more TV makers.
Further, it will actively support content and broadcasting services to expand the ecosystem of it’s smart TV platform.
However, many are of the opinion that the operating system has lost its charm and look no different than others.
Another section of the population feels that the more standardised user interface will help LG attract more customers.
It is due to it’s ability to allow users from other platforms to switch over faster.
The company shipped a total of 30 million TVs last year as per reports.
About 90 percent of the TVs shipped last year were smart TVs enabling viewers to enjoy content with internet connection.
In the recent years, LG Electronics has put in effort to upgrade its software capabilities in the TV business.
