Government buys covid 19 vaccine covishield at Rs 210 per dose

The government has procured the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine Covishield. It is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India at a lower price of Rs 210 per dose including GST.

According to reports, the price of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine across the world is expected to be in the range of about USD 4 to USD 5.25.

Moreover, the Centre placed a second purchase order with Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) for the supply of one crore doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine Covishield.

Also, the price for COVAX AMC facility amalgamating the demand and supply for a total of 191 countries which includes European countries is USD 3 per dose to USD 3.15 per dose.

It was precisely due to advance payment made to the vaccine manufacturer. This was done much before the vaccine’s clinical trial completion and obtaining licensure from the regulator.

So far, the central government has placed supply orders amounting to a total of 41 million doses

This includes both covid-19 vaccines–Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech International Limited.

In fact, procurement of additional quantity of vaccines has also been factored in.

A total of 960.75 crore have been utilized for procurement of covid-19 vaccines as of 8th February.

Further, 480 crore has been earmarked as operational cost for covid-19 vaccination drive.

Around 123.49 crore have been disbursed to States/UTs as per State/UT-wise details of funds disbursed for covid-19 vaccination so far.
